LANDS
“A collection of wood trays inspired by aerial landscapes”
Aerial perspectives and the origin of Lands
“I have taken a plane many times, however, flying is always an exciting experience for me. Being in my seat and seeing how, as if by magic, the plane takes off and with every second things seem smaller down there. And I feel how, after many years, I keep looking down out of the window as when I was a child. Already from the air, I start seeing the roads, villages, fields, mountains… And finally, just clouds.”
We conceived the Lands collection during moments of quiet observation from an airplane window. This experience, looking down at the evolving geometry of roads, fields, and mountains, became the primary source of inspiration. The collection translates those vast aerial landscapes into a series of intimate, tactile wooden objects for the home.
PROJECT DETAILS
Materiality and reversible functionality
Crafted in ash and steamed walnut wood, these trays offer a variety of sizes to create unique compositions. A key feature of the collection is its versatility; each piece is designed to be used on both sides, allowing for a signature look that adapts to almost any interior requirement.
A modular system of six different trays
The collection consists of six different trays, ranging from 32x20cm to 8x8cm. We designed them to be combined into irregular arrangements, mirroring the natural topography of a landscape. By varying the heights across the wooden pieces, the compositions gain a rhythmic, organic character when placed together.
Functional minimalism for organized spaces
These wooden trays serve as both decorative elements and practical organizers. Whether used on an office desk to display small belongings or rearranged in creative combinations, they provide a sense of order. Their minimal aesthetic ensures they remain functional while adding a warm, textured touch to organized environments.
Design process and technical details
During the development phase, the focus was on creating a product that was straightforward to manufacture while maintaining sophisticated details. The goal was to ensure the trays remained visually engaging through subtle transitions and high quality woodworking, resulting in a series of products that are as interesting to look at as they are easy to produce.
